What Does It Take to Install A Tankless Water Heater? If you are comfortable doing handyman projects you can probably handle installing a tankless water heater, at least the electric kind. Some manufactures specify in their warranty that an authorized technician is required, others do not. It does take basic knowledge of plumbing and electricity. The only unfamiliar part of an electric installation is probably the breaker panel. If you prefer, why not let an electrician handle it. Using one of the add-on tips mentioned elsewhere may enable you to eliminate the need for installing a sub panel. I recommend having electrical and plumbing how-to books on hand, before you start. Handy how-to books from the home improvement store are good but not detailed enough for this project. Look for a by-and-for professionals version. Except for a pipe cutter, no special tools are required for this project.
